Bielefelders are a recent addition to Clover Hill Farm. There will be an extremely limited availability of these beautiful birds in 2017, but we anticipate the ability to offer more to the public in 2018.
Why bielefelders you ask? Well, there are as many ways to answer that question. Bielefelders are a beautiful breed of chicken that come with a most desirable trait, they're autosexing. Autosexing means that the chicks can be sexed at hatch. Pullets have the wild type coloring, also referred to as chipmunk markings, while cockerels have a very well defined light spot on their head and a lighter body, overall. With bielefelders, there is no more risk of buying 6 chicks and ending up with all roosters.
The bielefelder was developed in the 1970s, in Bielefeld, Germany. They were imported to the United States in 2011, but they're still quite rare. An excellent dual purpose breed, they lay approximately 230 eggs a year.
At times there may be a waiting list for chicks and eggs. If you submit an order and there is a wait list, you will be notified as quickly as possible.
Chicks ordered after June 1st may be hatched to order, meaning eggs will be incubated specifically to fill your order. Chicks will ship approximately 3-4 weeks from the time the order is placed.
